I hate mornings, but...

How often to you get a chance to see a SRB brought in??

Luckily, I wasn't the only geek there.

The beginning of the end...

Rollover of Atlantis for STS-135 and the final flight of the Shuttle Program.

A geek moment for me. Growing up I used to read Aviation Week and Space Technology religiously, and haunted the local library every week until I got to read it. During the rollout I fell into a conversation with this gent, and was humbled when I found out who I was talking with. A legend in aviation reporting and long time AW&ST editor, Mr. Craig Covault.

And we thank you for all your years of hard work.

After STS-132 and what was supposed to be Atlantis's final flight the STS-132 astronauts inked a wish inside a storage locker. Glad to see it came true.

Don't litter!!!

Got a call that the ships were bringing in the burned out SRBs, so what better is there to do at sunset in Florida???

Gotta get past the gatekeeper first.

Let's make some noise!!

The bad news was that the overcast only let us see Endeavour for a (far too) short 22 seconds.

The good news is the overcast trapped the sound energy, resulting in a noisier than normal launch, and check out the glow as she punches through the clouds.

Rocket split clouds

With apologies to John Magee...

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
